Dermal Fillers

Dermal fillers are used to reduce the appearance of lines, wrinkles and folds in the face, create plump lips (lip augmentation or lip enhancement), as well as to restore the cheek volume lost over time—one of the major signs of aging.  Other uses include improving the appearance of the nose, chin and jawline ( ”liquid nose job,” “liquid rhinoplasty,” “liquid chin augmentation”), contouring the face, softening the appearance of depressed scars, and restoring firmness to the earlobes.

Restylane®

Used to add volume and fullness to the skin to correct moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds, such as the lines from your nose to the corners of your mouth (nasolabial folds).

Belotero®

Belotero® Balance is a hyaluronic acid injectable filler designed to integrate into facial skin tissue. The unique manufacturing process for Belotero® yields a soft and cohesive gel that is perfect for the areas around the eyes.

Juvederm®

JUVÉDERM® is an injectable gel that is used in areas of facial tissue where moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds occur to temporarily add volume to the skin, especially around the nose, mouth, and cheeks.

Xeomin®

A newer version of Botox® where you still get all the same effects that Botox® provides but at a much lower cost.

Botox®

Botox® Cosmetic (onabotulinumtoxinA) is a prescription medicine that is injected into facial muscles and used to temporarily improve the look and restore a youthful quality to the face. Botox® is designed to treat dynamic wrinkles that are caused by continual frowning, squinting and furrowing of the brows. It relaxes the facial muscles around the eyes and brows, preventing them from contracting and causing wrinkles. Botox has enabled thousands of our patients to enjoy a smoother and more youthful facial appearance.

Dysport®

WHAT IS DYSPORT®?

Natural-looking. Fast-acting. Long-lasting.

Don’t let your frown lines between your eyebrows define you. For adults who want a natural look, Dysport is a natural-looking, fast-acting1-3, long-lasting1,2,4 prescription injection proven to help smooth moderate to severe frown lines between the eyebrows—without changing the look or movement of the rest of your face.

How does Botox® cosmetic work?

Botox® Cosmetic targets one of the underlying causes of frown lines and crow’s feet—the repeated muscle contractions from frowning and squinting over the years. Your specialist will inject these muscles with Botox® Cosmetic to temporarily reduce muscle activity. You will begin to notice a visible smoothing of your crow’s feet lines and frown lines between your brows.

Wrinkles result from a combination of many factors. It’s not just about cellular changes that can occur over time, reduction of collagen, or damage caused by free radicals in the sun and the environment. When you frown or concentrate, the muscles between your brows contract, causing your skin to furrow and fold. And when you squint, the muscles around your eyes contract and cause crow’s feet.

Botox® Cosmetic works beneath the skin’s surface and targets the underlying muscle activity that causes frown lines and crow’s feet

Frown lines

For the frown lines area, your specialist will administer 5 injections into muscles in your forehead—1 in the procerus muscle and 4 in the corrugator muscles.

Injecting BOTOX® Cosmetic into the muscles that cause frown lines temporarily reduces the activity of those muscles. The result is a reduction in the appearance of those lines.

Crows feet

For the crow’s feet area, your specialist will inject 3 areas of the orbicularis oculi, the muscle that frames the side of the eye. This will be repeated on the orbicularis oculi muscle on the other eye.

Injecting Botox® Cosmetic into the muscles that cause crow’s feet lines temporarily reduces the activity of those muscles. The result is a reduction in the appearance of those lines.

FAQ

Are there different types of dermal fillers?

Yes.  The most popular dermal fillers are made of hyaluronic acid.  Hyaluronic acid is a type of sugar found naturally in the body.  It is one of the main substances that makes skin plump and firm.  There are different formulations of hyaluronic acid (Juvederm®, Restylane®, Belotero®, Voluma®), each with their special properties and indications.

  • Juvederm®/Juvederm Ultra®/Restylane® — great for softening the nasolabial folds (the folds running from the sides of the nose to the corners of the mouth), contouring the face, and plumping the lips
  • Restylane® — best for fine lines, but also for lip augmentation and softening the circles under the eyes
  • Radiesse® — amazing for restoring the youthful fullness (the “apple”) of the cheeks

Many times a combination of dermal fillers–layering them–gives the ultimate result! (Juvederm/Vollure® and Restylane® for lip augmentation, Radiesse® and Volbella ®for the circles/bags under the eyes). Sometimes this is referred to as a “liquid”.

Are the results of dermal fillers permanent?

Although long lasting, no hyaluronic acid filler is permanent.  Depending on the type used and the location placed, you may need touch up injections anywhere from several months to a year or more.  For some uses, such as lip augmentation, repeat treatment may be needed sooner.

What is Botox®?

Derived from sources that exist in nature, Botox® Cosmetic contains tiny amounts of a highly purified botulinum toxin protein refined from the bacterium, Clostridium botulinum. Formulations, potency, and approved doses vary among botulinum toxin products, which means that one product cannot take the place of another. Those are a few reasons why there is no such thing as a “generic” form of Botox® Cosmetic. There have been no studies to support that other products are Unit-to-Unit equivalent to Botox® Cosmetic.

How soon can I get to my daily routine?

Treatment requires minimal downtime or recovery; it’s often called a lunchtime procedure. You’ll be able to go about your normal routine immediately after you leave your specialist’s office.

Some patients report that being injected with Botox® Cosmetic feels like a pinch. Your specialist may use ice to numb the treatment area. If you are concerned about discomfort, your specialist may apply a topical numbing cream before administering your treatment.

The actual injection process takes about 10 minutes.
Your specialist will discuss your treatment goals and perform a facial analysis to determine the appropriate treatment areas for you.

What are the cost considerations?

Your cost not only includes the price of the product, but more importantly, the skill and expertise of the specialist or healthcare professional who is administering your treatment.
